PRESENCE: Bringing your BOLDEST SELF to your BIGGEST CHALLENGES

INTRODUCTION

BODY AUDIT: OF YOUR BODY RIGHT NOW

AMY CUDDY Harvard professor and social psychologist, created a master piece for self-confidence for the self-doubting population.

Can you think of a time you felt like you wanted a do-over? Maybe job interview, television interview, presentation... Are you ready to change the way we carry ourselves?

Why is it when in the very moment we require of ourselves to be genuine and commanding we sometimes feel powerless. We approach challenge with dread, anxiety and regret... EVEN AVOIDANCE. Amy Cuddy studied... Non verbal expressions of power and dominance.

This book is about how are going to GAIN PRESENCE: Nudge ourselves gently, moment by moment, we are going to tweak our body language, behaviour, and mind-set in our daily lives. We will talk about "POWER POSES" and the science underlying these body-mind effects.

This book allows us to access our PERSONAL POWER, so we can achieve PRESENCE-- the state in which we stop worrying about the impressions we are making on others and instead adjust the impression we are making on ourselves. We will learn how to use simple techniques to liberate ourselves from fear in high-pressure moments so we can perform our best.

CONSIDER 1

CLOSE POSITION... collapse make self small...

Can you think of a stressful moment or moments that you have dreaded in your life? Moments that perhaps terrified you in the past?

When you weren't present? When have you thought "What are they thinking of me? Does that person think I am stupid?

WHEN HAVE YOU FELT YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE HERE? When have you felt powerless..Power makes us approach and powerless makes us avoid. Eg. Everyone else is smarter than I am. I'm not even suppose to be here. Imposter syndrome.

Consider your posture now. Slouching, steeplinng, and body language. What you do speaks so loud, we can't hear what you say!! Pride takes over the whole body. Powerlessness collapses your body.

Break Out Group: Where are you not fully showing up in your life? Where are you not letting yourself be seen? 10 minutes.

WHAT IS PRESENCE?

WE CONVINCE WITH PRESENCE

We know it when we see it and the know when we feel it. Being present is an incredibly powerful state. HARD TO DEFINE!!

Treat even the most difficult interactions as opportunities to reveal what you are capable of and to express your worthiness. THAT IS PRESENCE!

Presence is: removing judgement, walls and masks to create a true and deep connection with people. Presence is loving people around you and enjoying what you do for them. Presence is being yourself and keeping confident, whatever happens. Presence- a state of being attuned to and able to comfortably express true thoughts, feelings, values and potential.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE PRESENCE? How do you allow yourself to be scene. WHAT DOES PRESENCE look and feel like?

For me it is... passion, confidence and comfortable enthusiasm. Presence manifests as confident without arrogance. Presence is the inner self showing up. NO ACTING. Authenticity. Act WITH PRESENCE until it feels authentic.

POWERFUL

Power can protect us. Power can connect us. Power can liberate our thinking. Power can synchronize us. Power can ignite action. Power makes us more effective.,

Personal power is also the path to presence.

HOW TO POSE FOR PRESENCE

Science shows that our bodies speak to us. They tell us how and what to feel and even think. Mind can change the body: AND the body can change the mind. Non verbals affect how others see us and how we see ourselves.

Our bodies change what goes on inside our endocrine systems, our autonomic nervous system, our brains and our minds without our being conscious of a thing. In other words our body positions affect our minds.

How we carry ourselves-- facial expressions, postures, our breathing- all clearly affect the way we think, feel and behave. Studies support this.

Stand like super person. Stand up as if on your surf board. Do Yoga. = Actions can transform ways of thinking. Studies show that holding a pen in your teeth makes the world seem funnier. Paced breathing can instantly relax us and calm the nervous system. We can use our whole bodies- through posture, gestures, and movement (even imaginary movements)- to enhance our personal power!!

We can pose our way to presence!!!

Expanding your body causes you to think about yourself in positive light and to trust in that self-concept. Closing your body down has the opposite effect. Expanding your body physiologically prepare you to be present. Power posing can allow us to override our instinct to fight or flee, allowing us to be grounded, open, and engaged. Expanding your body also has been shown to decrease pain.

THE BODY SHAPES THE MIND STARFISH

Stand up straight and realize who you are, you tower over your circumstances. Power Pose for Presence! Use when entering a situation where you feel threatened, judged, or reported.

Powerful Posing

Studies reveal that: Expanding your body language - through posture, movement, and speech- makes you feel more confident and powerful, less anxious and self-absorbed, and generally more positive. Posture also shapes the way we feel and think about ourselves.

Stand at attention. Starfish up. Big poses. Good posture. Wonder women.

SELF-NUDGING: TINY TWEAKS BIG CHANGES

Power posing requires self-nudging. Encourage yourself to feel a little more courageous, a bit more bold. To be a bit more present and incrementally over time you will end up where you wan to be. Change doesn't happen overnight.

Self motivated personal change.- Baby steps. Simply start with adjusting your posture. Remember our behaviour reinforces our behaviour. Notice other peoples reinforcement of your behaviour. When our body language is confident and open other people respond the same way, which reinforces behaviour.

Think about where you are not showing up fully in your life. WHAT POWER POSE CAN YOU ADOPT TO HELP YOURSELF IN THIS SITUATION?

Fake it until you become it. 2 minutes 2 minutes 2 minutes. Increase testosterone and decrease cortisol

FAKE IT UNTIL YOU BECOME IT

Practice power posing before your next interview, big event, or challenge. It is as simple as instead of folding your hands in you lap, put your elbows on the arm chair.

No longer curl up and make yourself small. When our minds and insecurites make us feel insignificant, it seems our bodies can really remind us that we are, in fact, the stuff that stars are made of.

Dance your way to presence. Seize the large, powerful parts of yourself- the ones you love and believe. They are yours for the3 taking!!

You can fake it to make it: Non verbal power and dominance. When you pretend to be powerful you are more likely to feel powerful. Mind change body.. body change our minds too.,

BREAK OUT SESSION: When are you going to fake it until you make it? WHERE DO YOU WANT TO SHOW UP FULLY AND HAVE A PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE? WHEN ARE YOUR GOING TO MAKE YOURSELF POWERFUL?
